Kalighat Kali Temple
Kalighat Kali Temple is an extremely sacred Shakti Peetha, dedicated to Goddess Kali. According to Hindu mythology, it is said that the right toe of Goddess Sati had fallen here, which makes it a highly significant pilgrimage destination. From ancient times, people come to this place in order to ask for strength, protection, and elimination of any negativity in their lives.
This temple structure has been erected in the early years of the 19th century by the members of the famous Sabarna Roy Choudhury community, who were also supported by some others. However, the existence of this place as a pilgrimage site predates the construction of its present form considerably. Goddess Kali is being worshipped here in her aggressive incarnation, symbolizing annihilation of negativity and protection of worshippers.
