Baidyanath Dham, situated at Deoghar, Jharkhand, is considered one of the most revered temples of Lord Jyotirlinga and is known to be the heart of Lord Shiva worship in Eastern India. It is believed that Lord Shiva resides here in the form of Baidyanath, which means ‘the Divine Physician,’ and grants relief from physical and mental sufferings.

According to mythology, Ravana performed rigorous penance by sacrificing his own heads before Lord Shiva. Lord Shiva, pleased with Ravana’s devotion, restored him and appeared before him in the form of Jyotirlinga. This is considered an example of surrender, devotion, and kindness of God.

In addition to the main temple of Lord Shiva, there are 21 other temples of various deities located around it, which makes it a major center of spiritual energy. The famous Shravani Mela is attended by millions of Kanwariyas carrying holy Ganga water over hundreds of kilometers barefoot and offering Jal Abhishek to Lord Shiva.

It is believed by devotees that if prayers are made with sincerity at Baidyanath Dham, it will grant wishes regarding health, marriage, and prosperity. It is considered to be one of the most visited temples of Lord Shiva in India throughout the year.
