The Sankalp Ceremony (prayer ceremony) takes place outside the temple premises for the devotee, followed by the main puja being done near the Garbhagriha (Sanctum Sanctorum) of Pashupatinath Temple under the guidance of the Chief Priest of Pashupatinath Temple.
The puja starts with the Sankalp ritual that takes place outside the temple, which includes chanting of Vedic mantras along with the name of the devotee, Gotra and his/her wishes to be fulfilled. Following the completion of the Sankalp ritual, the Head Priest and five Brahmins begin the divine process of worship near the Garbhagriha of Lord Pashupatinath. The Shiva Lingam is bathed using holy water and Panchamrit (combination of milk, curd, ghee, honey, and sugar) with chanting of Vedic mantras.
